CoCGMS Data Portability and Backup Questions PDF Print E-mail

Q: What file stores the data I create in the CoCGMS?

A: CoCGMS.USR is the data file.  All game data you create is within this file.

Q: What format is the CoCGMS.USR file in?

A: The system data file is a FileMaker Pro v7 data file.  If you have a full copy of FileMaker 11 you can copy and rename this file to a .fp7 extention and open it as any normal FileMaker database.

Q: Can I just send my CoCGMS.USR file to another person who has a copy of the CoCGMS and they can put it into their copy of their local CoCGMS install?

A: Yes.  The CoCGMS database file is branded with a key that will only let it be opened by another copy of cocgms.exe or a full FileMaker install.  You can send your copy of CoCGMS.USR to anyone else who has a copy of the utility.

Q: I have a copy of FileMaker but it isn't FileMaker v11.  Can I still use the CoCGMS database with that?

A: No.  There are several FM v11 functions that are part of the CoCGMS that will make it fail in certain areas if you open the data file with a client below v11.

Q: How can I backup my CoCGMS data?

A: Simply copy the CoCGMS.USR file to a safe place.  That contains all your game data.
