Hello all!
I've been taking some time recently to bring back to life an old classic of the horror game genre, Dark Cults! If you're not familiar with Dark Cults, it's a small story telling card game created in 1983 by Ken Rahman. Made for two players, it allows the forces of Life and Death to beset poor wanderers of the night with horrors untold. Well, not quite untold. That's your job as a player, to tell a great story.
The game has been out of print from many years and I have been unable to find a way to contact Ken Rahman to verify permission to release this free application version of his game. I hope if he hears of this he'll be happy with seeing his game back in what little light I can shine on it.
You can download it from the files area (Download --> FileMaker Files...Games) now. It's available for the PC, the Mac and the iPad. The PC and Mac versions are free stand alone applications. Unfortunately to make use of the iPad version, you would need to purchase FileMaker Go for the iPad as there is no royalty-free runtime engine available for FileMaker databases for the iPad at this time. But, if you do purchase it, you'll be able to make use of the soon to be released update for the CoCGMS which is iPad-happy as well.
Let me know if anyone finds any bugs in it or has any feedback they'd like to send my way. I'd love to hear what folks think about bringing this old game into the modern age a bit. |

Hello, Happy Gamers!
I've posted some beta screenshots of the CoCGMS for the iPad which will be a feature of the next release of the system. The database file of the system (cocgms.usr) can be renamed to cocgms.fp7 and uploaded to an iPad with FileMaker Go installed and used much like the PC or Mac interfaces of the system. The database file can then be copied back to a PC or Mac, renamed back to cocgms.usr and run from either platform (when you have the runtime engine installed, of course).
Unfortunately, there is no royalty free runtime engine for the iPad like the PC and Mac runtimes. That means in order to run FileMaker databases, you'll need to purchase FileMaker Go from the app store for $40. It's not too bad a fee for mobile gaming and any future releases of FileMaker databases I create (or anyone creates for that matter) will be usable on your copy of FileMaker Go.
Anyway... Just thought some folks might like to see a little snippit of what's coming up in the next release of the CoCGMS. Check out the "iPad Screenshot" link on the Main Menu to your left!
TTFN! |

I don't normally post teasers about things I'm working on for the CoCGMS but I thought I'd mention this one to give potentially users of the app something to look forward to.
The next release of the CoCGMS will incorporate player character templates (as well as NPC and Monster templates). This will allow you to roll up characters very quickly as needed. All good game management apps like Byakhee and Hero Labs can do this but the approach taken by the CoCGMS is a little different. In the stat fields and player addition fields for skills, you'll be able to specify any dice roll value or straight numeric range to apply during creation of a character via template. Meaning, you can have something like 1d6 + 12 as the value for Strength on a character template labeled "Navy Seal : Advanced". When the template is deployed, the CoCGMS will run through all stats and skill reference and calculate the final stat value. If you want to be more basic, you can even just specify a numeric range like 16-18 (which is also 1d3 + 15) and the CoCGMS will randomize the finally value between the low and high.
This approach will let you create highly customizable templates that will produce specific stat and skill values within needed ranges for all elements of a character. I'm going to try and create a good number of player character templates to include in the next CoCGMS release. If you have any suggestions for player character types, please let me know! |

Hello all!
It's been a while since I've released an update to the CoCGMS. But, a new version is now available for download. v1.45 includes a large number of system enhancements and new feature inclusions that I have been working on over the summer and fall. If you check the link for CoCGMS History you'll see that this release includes the largest number of feature enhancements I've ever done.
The templates feature has been significantly improved, all catalogs items (melee, range, general, etc) can have images attached to them, the name generation feature has been expanded and much more. Check out the CoCGMS History to read the complete feature list of what's been included in version 1.45.
A new set of screenshots is also available via the CoCGMS Images link to the left. 60 screenshots are available for browsing so you can get a visual handle on all of the features the CoCGMS has to offer. |
